Also local press might be interested in the escapees, and it's definitely a safeguarding issue to me!Signature removed for peace of mind1

Having worked in schools in Scotland including a breakfast club this is unacceptable. The school I worked also split the kids but P1-P3 and P4-7. The older kids were allowed to walk from the breakfast club to the playground through the school once they had finished their breakfast. The younger kids had to wait to be escorted by a member of staff to the playground. Once in the playground the kids were all supervised.0

Do you have school governors in Scotland the same way as in England. When I had concerns regarding school issues I felt I only got listened to when I put it in writing and it only got taken seriously when I involved the school governors.
I'd say what you have here. Why are the youngest kids being left unsupervised when the eldest ones are supervised and if there's not enough staff for 2 separate areas then why aren't all the children kept together?

I wonder if it is because nursery and P1 are considered ‘early years’ and should be separated from older children? That said it makes no sense to leave the, unsupervisedI'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Having said that, on the potential need to split the age groups, there may need to be some pragmatism here. So the ideal might be to split into two groups, but if numbers are such that there's no sensible way to do that, then you leave them in one group. That has GOT to be better than leaving one of the groups unsupervised!Signature removed for peace of mind2 -
is it because the breakfast club can only afford/is funded for a certain amount of time, so if it started later it could run right up to the time the school takes over responsibility?0

Sorry lots of comments, thank you all so much.
No governors up in Scotland. We don't have OFSTED either. We raise it with the school, then the council, then we can raise with the Care Commission if we're not happy with the outcome of the complaint with the council.
There's also no nursery in the school, so makes even less sense that the P1s are separated. There is a local newspaper who are always crying out for stories, but I wouldn't want to do anything to jeopardise any complaints at this stage, something to keep in the back pocket though!
We will need to wait until after the holidays before we hear anything so fingers crossed we get a resolution, I really just wanted a sounding board to make sure I wasn't seeing the issue with blinkers on
