CIS contractors usually have a tax deduction but nothing for NIC is taken.

Ah thanks, so getting paid this way wouldn't be an issue?

No, perfectly normal.  Don't forget to register for Self Assessment though as you will need to file a tax return each year you are self employed.

I work in construction someone also mentioned getting paid by C.I.S? I think this means they take the tax and national insurance off before they pay you?
CIS is for people who are self employed running their own business, not employees.
It may make it awkward as I am employed if getting paid for say 2 weeks via CIS. College summer holidays

Would it be plausible to get paid by CIS for a period of 2 weeks if got a second job. Or not worth the hassle?

It wouldn't be a second job though, you would be self employed.

The potentially good news is that claiming the trading allowance (on your Self Assessment return) is likely to mean you can end up with no (or very little) profit and therefore get a refund of any tax deducted at source.

yes you have to register and complete self assessment and any forms HMRC give you.  What is it exactly you will be doing as not all construction activities need to be CIS tax deducted.
