Second job

Options
If you get cleared by HR to take a second job for a certain period. How does your second employ pay you as I wouldn't have a P45. Are they any pitfalls of taking a second role? Thanks

All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.

Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.

Thanks for your link. So I would just be paid with my original tax code? I wouldn't be breaking the tax fresh hold

No, you would have a separate tax code for the new job.

This would often be BR (basic rate) so you would pay 20% tax on the second job.  And nothing would change with your existing job.

If the second job takes you into higher rate tax territory then it would be different.

you can ask inland revenue to split tax allowances per job eg one job you earn £7000 and the other £5000 , then no tax will be paid on either job if both jobs add up to below your tax allowance.

so ask for £7000 allowance for first job and a £5000 allowance for second job.

so give them a phone call and ask them to split the allowances.

my wife did this, as if she didn't , then her second job at £5000 would be taxed at 20% on everything until end of tax year then she would have to wait a few months until inland revenue had done a full year tax calculation and refund her on her second job that she was taxed on for the year

so you have a choice, let things run on 20% tax on second job and await a large tax refund at end of tax year or contract inland revenue and split the allowances now so no tax is paid and hence no refund should be due
Christians Against Poverty solved my debt problem, when all other debt charities failed. Give them a call !! ( You don't have to be a Christian ! )

Yes.  But only after your tax code has been applied.  That is often 1257L and means no tax is paid on the first £1,048 each month.

With a second job with tax code BR it would be 20% on all the income from the second job.

I work in construction someone also mentioned getting paid by C.I.S? I think this means they take the tax and national insurance off before they pay you?

CIS is for people who are self employed running their own business, not employees.
