Default Issued Incorrectly by E.on. What are my rights

Options
I own a property which I rent out and have never lived at.

E.on energy wrote to my at my letting agents address, saying they were going to issue a default against me.

The letting agents forwarded the letter, I called E.on straight away and said I will pay whoever is due. They asked me for tenancy agreements and meter reads to calculate the exact amounts I owe them.

I sent via email on the 14th May 24 (the same day I was made aware of this debt) and said please let me know what I owe and I will make immediate payment.

On the 31st May they issued a default on my credit file.

I have never in my life had a missed payment, or late payment. My "score" has dropped from 995 to 745.

They claim they have removed it and my credit file should reflect this in upto 45 days (lets see).

My question is now, am I entitled to compensation, I found out about the default on Saturday afternoon, via a phone notification. I couldn't speak to e.on till Monday. I booked Monday off work to get this sorted. I then took Tuesday off too, as it was not sorted. I have been so stressed over this for 4 days now. This will continue till I can see this has been removed.

I have worked about 6 hours on emails, phone calls and gathering proof.

They offered me £20 as a good will gesture. Which I think is pretty poor, how do I go about getting more, can I litigate? I am very angry and do have funds & time (retired)to take the matter to the courts.
