OP has already stated "He can’t talk on the phone to anyone as he’s so anxious."
Then we need to know if he is computer literate to manage and claim himself online, otherwise they will need to ask for mum to be appointee..

He wouldn’t be able to manage the application process online and dealing with the management of it all due to severe anxiety,  brain fog, poor concentration and memory. How do I go about being the appointee?

    Thank you

Once you've submitted the claim put a message onto his journal and ask to become his appointee. A work coach will then arrange it. I don't know if a home visit would be needed for this but I know they used to do that for PIP.

You can choose to do the online claim for him... and manage it yourself, and as Poppy says when the claim is open put a Journal message to say you are his mother and neither of you(?) can leave the house, you would like to be set up as his appointee and because neither of you can leave the house, you will need all appointments to be done by telephone.

If you are able, to manage the online claim yourself it makes it easier, because you can log in and read and reply to the journal and report changes yourself. Make sure you write down somewhere safe, your security questions that you choose and the answers you give.

However, if neither of you can manage this online, you can apply by phone asking for a "phone claim" this type of claim is more frustrating as you then receive text messages telling you to phone UC as something has changed, and then you are totally reliant on the helpline telling you what the latest message says in the journal, and asking them to make any changes.

    No, your note will say:
My son and I wish for me to be made his appointee.
And as neither of us can leave the house, he needs all his jobcentre appointments to be by phone.

Becoming an appointee is a process and DWP have to agree
    1 he needs an appointee
2 you are capable of being his appointee

    Hi,

I would be grateful for help and guidance with the following descriptors relating to universal credit:

descriptor 8 “unable to navigate around familiar surroundings due to sensory impairment” does sensory impairment include sensory unawareness due to severe anxiety, during a panic attacks, agoraphobia, unbalanced and spinning sensation within due to vertigo and having to sit down, when can’t see during a hypoglycaemic episode?

does descriptor 10 “has an involuntary episode of lost or altered state of consciousness” include a hypoglycaemic episode where vision is lost as has starts in front of eyes for a few minutes and needs help and support?

I would be grateful if anyone could advise what descriptor “coping with change” encompasses. My son can’t cope with phone calls due to social anxiety and severe anxiety  need to talk on his behalf, broadband going down, an unplanned visitor, are these the sort of things this descriptor is talking about?

I would be grateful for any help and guidance.

    Thank you
