It's because of medication that my partner was classed as having a Severe disability since all the antipsychotics(he's tried them all) caused his muscles to twitch uncontrollably and he was unable to sit or lie still or even sleep for more than a few minutes. He can no longer take medication for his condition, so it can't be treated. Diazepam is used as a last resort to sedate him if he has a psychotic episode. It's a horrible situation for him.
Reviews are absolutely horrible hopefully you will get a longer award next time and help relieve your stress.

Of course there's the potential for any hostile government to twist it into meaning things that it doesn't - which they already do plenty of - but this by itself seems eminently sensible to me, to save everyone time, effort/stress and money by acknowledging that some people will never stop needing a level of support that more than qualifies for an enhanced award.
(And in reality disabled people are already put into categories by some genuinely not qualifying for disability benefits, and others qualifying for different rates. So far, to my knowledge, standard vs enhanced isn't widely used as a shorthand for making a distinction, aside from Motability eligibility.)
That is amazing they proactively looked at his case! Brilliant.
What it can to is allow people with the same award to be treated differently, as one is now classed as having the "most severe conditions" and the other isn't.

It makes sense to me - from a medical point of view, but I can also see what you are saying with the decision. Hopefully if it works as I see it (and yes I know thats somewhat different from DWP and ATOS/Capita) but if the difference is your on first line meds - PIP with review and then your on third or fourth line meds - PIP with no review. Then it takes into account those with LONG term diagnosis and poor prognosis and saves them the stress of re-assessment every 2/3/4/5/10 yrs.
But thats my sensible head thinking and hence why I left PIP assessments because theres nothing sensible about the process.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.
