Warm water from cold taps

Options
Hello. We have a combi boiler that is about 13/25 years old. It is a Valiant Eco tec boiler.
This morning we noted warm water from sink and basin taps, We did not bother with the bath tap as I assumed it would be the same. We ran the taps for 5 mins. The weather is a cool 17C here aTM

I even turned off the boiler and still, there was warm water from the cold tap

My sibling had this problem last year as I recall talking about it and they also had the rads heat up when the hot water was on

Is it a diverter valve stuck or faulty? We have a boiler cover. Many thanks

Comments

  • Just tried the hot tap worked ok. Funnily, the cold taps worked as cold should
I'm guess the diverter valve is on its way out? I will wait to call out an engineer until it gets worse or at least the fault is clearly evident.

The funny bit was even with the boiler off this morning the cold tap gave luke warm water.
  • I've checked the boiler for leaks, but none as I've read there may be a small drip if the diverter valve is at fault. It may be its early days ATM.

Diverter valves control heating of hot water and central heating - not the cold water.

Generally it's proximity of cold water pipes to hot water pipes that can cause warm cold feeds for a short period.  Lagging the pipes reduces the effect.

    Thanks for you post/help.
Our pipes are where there were years ago.
I've noted warmer water in the cold when the heating is on but only for a few seconds.
Today, the heating is not on and nor had we ran any hot water at the time.
As I posted the second time, the problems seem to have gone.

Reading various forums, info on Google, you can get warm water in cold taps if the diverter is at fault as well as what you have said.
ATM, I will not book an engineer. I'll keep on reading thread for other comments and if things change, I will update the thread.

Currently reading cold water temperature of around 21°C - This is quite normal during the summer months as the sun heats the ground above the cold water pipes. Not just the bit feeding my property, but also the pipework coming from the water treatment plant.
During the winter, cold water temperature drops to around 7-8°C, so the boiler has to work much harder to heat the DHW.

Do you have a thermostatic shower?

The latest is the cold tap is very cold and not like this morning.
I notice the little changes and it was odd and even Mrs U noted it which
    is a are event.
