Parcel Missing - Advice Please

Bought two items from a seller off eBay a couple of weeks ago.
Royal Mail attempted delivery last Monday but could not fit it in the post box, so left a card saying they will try again on Tuesday.
I missed the parcel again on Tuesday and they left another card saying to contact them.
So I went onto the RM website and arranged for the item to be sent to a local post office which should arrive there two days later ( Thursday )
I pop down to the post office on Friday, parcel not there.
I pop down to the delivery office on Saturday, and they said they could not find my parcel to send it to the post office.
I have asked the seller on eBay for a refund, they then said " we will need confirmation from Royal mail that they have now lost the item so we can claim a loss against them "
This item is tracked and on the first attempt says " Delivery Attempted - Address Inaccessible " , on the second attempt says " Delivery attempted - No answer "
The item is barely worth the hassle as it was cheap but still don't want money thrown away and a refund would be nice considering this post is quite clearly lost.
Any advice please ?

Open an INR on Ebay which will show the item hasn't been delivered.

In any case, you will receive a refund if something is wrong.
