And yes, I have the money earning interest in my account, but I need closure as it's making me ill. I didn't think about a cheque as I haven't had a cheque book for a few years now.
Don't know if it's a daft idea but if I videoed myself putting the jewellery through my sisters door along with the cheque, would this cover me. They all still live at the same address. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.1 -
Unfortunately not. Just myself, my husband and my daughters0

Thank you for the information, but that is not how I would like to progress. I would like to be fair even though my sister has done what she's done.0

The bank will issue you a stand alone blank cheque with your details for you to issue to you sistermake the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.3 -
Thank you.0

Assuming your Nieces are adults, I'd write to them and say something along the lines of 'you have been left x (your choice if you say jewellery or name specific items) by your Grandmother. Can you please contact me to arrange a mutually convenient time for me to give you your items and include your phone number, SM details etc so they can make contact.
You could do the same with your sister and enclose the cheque if you want.

All this background info is totally irrelevant. I think you're in danger of making a drama out of something which is perfectly easy to resolve, and upsetting yourself in the process.
If you don't have a cheque book, ask the bank to give you a bank draft payable to your sister (you'll be charged a fee for this, but it'll get the matter sorted), and send that and the jewellery by registered post or a good quality, insured courier service. If you don't want to post them (?why not?), then your only alternative is to deliver them.Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!2 -
Thank you, I've already taken the advice and ordered a cheque book. Contacted my nieces. Left a message with my sister
I apologise for wasting your time0 -
