Hi,
About 18 months ago, we had solar panels and batteries installed in our house. Unfortunately, between the installation and the point where all the certificates were issued, the company went bust. (We were fortunate, at least we got our stuff installed and working)
This means that we can't be paid for exporting electricity, despite putting hundreds of Kilowatts in over this time. Is there anyone we can contact to provide all the correct certification or are the Grid going to make money off us ad infinitum?
Many Thanks, Tpt

"The Grid" aren't making money off you.
You'll probably have to find another certified installer willing to inspect your system and do the paperwork. I don't think anyone accepts newly-built systems without certificates0 -
It would be worth contacting MCS (who issue the certificates) to see if there is an official way to do this - tell them the situation and see what they say.

I would ask Octopus via twitter to see if they have a process for bringing installations like yours into their Outgoing Octopus scheme. I suspect you will need to find someone willing to certify your system and register it correctly.1

Octopus were doing this assessment themselves for a one-off fee (I think it was £150?) as a trial to get non-MCS installations on board.Smart Tech Specialist with Octopus Energy Services (all views my own). 4.44kW SW Facing in-roof array with 3.6kW Givenergy Gen 2 Hybrid inverter and 9.5kWh Givenergy battery. 9kW Panasonic Aquarea L (R290) ASHP. #gasfree since July ‘231

Thank you for the suggestions, my wife has already contacted Octopus and we have most of the certificates needed, just the electrical installation cert has not been provided. My next question is, can we get a qualified electrician to check it and certify it?0

EICs are standard electrician fare - although some might not be willing if they didn't actually do the installation themselves.Trencherpilot2 said:Thank you for the suggestions, my wife has already contacted Octopus and we have most of the certificates needed, just the electrical installation cert has not been provided. EIC should only come from the installer, indeed the person completing it signs as "I being the person responsible for the Design, Construction, Inspection and Testing of the electrical installation .."
If you don't have that then you could engage an electrician to inspect and test.
Having said that Octopus only asked me for MCS certificate, and DNO notification. They didn't ask for EIC.2
