Newcastle airport parking charge notice

Hi, I have received a parking charge notice for stopping in the petrol station to drop off a passenger at Newcastle airport. I was in a high top hire van that would not fit under the height restrictor to the drop off zone, all the roads and petrol station are red routes from the dual carriageway to the drop off zone tI was stopped for maybe 15 seconds in the petrol station to avoid being an obstruction. There are no alternatives to the drop off zone that I could not get into. Should I have to pay the £170 they are threatening. Or should I ignore it, I have emailed them but they just write back putting up the charge
