Garage floors can be a bit damp. Even when they have a DPM, penetrating damp through single skin brickwork can soak into the floor.moneysaver1978 said:

On certain contracts I worked on I used to use a sledgehammer to drive in earthrods, when not on that type of work the hammer used to live in a corner of the garage with head on floor. After about five years got it out again and was surprised how the timber around head had deteriorated.
After that the new hammer sat on a wooden batten to protect it, I believe there can be a reaction between concrete and wood, indeed in the description of the timber referenced it says to avoid contact with ground.Play with the expectation of winning not the fear of failure. S.Clarke1
