Faulty Vitamix: registered, within warrantee but they want a receipt

Vitamix give a 7 year warrantee. We've had our for 6 years and it's gone wrong. We registered it on their website when we bought it but Vitamix say that they want to see proof of purchase. Can they do that? I can't see anything on their website that says we need to do this. Surely, registering at the point of purchase is good enough? How many people are likely to keep proof of purchase from 6 years ago!

Always keep purchase receipts for items with guarantees. Unless they are uploaded with a scan copy at the time of registering the guarantee. Seems perfectly reasonable. Otherwise would open to abuse.2

Are your bank or credit card statements from that time available?1 -

Do you mean your product was registered by the seller at the time of purchase, or what?
If you have a product with a warranty/guarantee for N years, you should keep the receipt fot N years...0 -
The two most recent things I bought with longer guarantees, 3 and 5 years both asked for an upload of receipt when registering for it. Maybe 6 years ago that wasn't done as much. Hopefully your credit card company can retrieve a copy of your purchase.1

Warranties are not statutory rights and as such they can broadly have whatever terms they want, its not uncommon that if the receipt isn't asked for at point of registration that you are asked for it at point of claim. As others have said, for anything with a material warranty that you may want to claim on in the future keep the receipt until the end of the warranty. If you're happy to just buy again when it fails then dont keep the receipt.0 -

I keep all receipts and instruction manuals together in a folder, then if anything goes wrong I have the proof at hand. It's a good habit to have and saves time when it comes to claiming on a warranty.1
