My landlord currently raised my rent up to the maximum LHA(or whatever applies to private tenants) for my circumstances and property. Had no issues whatsoever just notified the council online and sent a photo of the rent increase letter and it was being paid at new rate from the increase date. Although I am on ESA, i think it's UC that's usually notified if you are on that benefit but it's done quickly.

I had a rent increase in January and my rent is £650 and LHA was £525 at that time. LHA is £625 now. I pay the shortfall of £25.

All I had to do was report the change of circumstances to UC in April. They asked for me to upload  my Tenancy agreement and I received the new rate of £625 in May, the following Assessment period. It was a fairly easy process and done fairly quickly. Quickly as in a day or 2.
