Amazon charging vat on free delivery charge

If you take free delivery Amazon applies a promotion to remove the charge.  They then include vat on the original values.   Is this right?  Look at these numbers:

Order Summary 

• Items: 

  £29.49 

  Postage & Packing: 

  £3.74 

  Total before VAT: 

  £33.23 

  VAT: 

  £6.65 

  Total: 

  £39.88 

  Promotion Applied: 

  -£3.74 

  Order Total: 

  £35.39

  Am I missing something?

Amazon don’t normally quote prices ex-vat.

£39.88 - £3.74 is £36.14.

£36.14 - £35.39 is £0.75.

VAT on £3.74 postage is £0.75.

You haven't been charged the postage VAT - your order total is correct.
