What does provisional Tax credit award mean?

Hi folks,

We do know that Child Tax Credits are ending soon and so far we haven't had a migration letter to change to UC.

We have just done the review online stating our income etc, and got back a so called Provisional Award Letter for Tax Credits back that  ends in August.

Does this mean that Child Tax Credits will end in August.

My partner did draw out her Scottish Widows one off pension pot a few years ago, but when they did an estimate income amount for years 23-24, it was far too high, so we corrected that with the lower income for 23-24, could this have caused the provisional award?

Thanks for any clarification.

Based on personal experience when a child reaches 16 Tax credits awards are usually only until end of August. It will be recalculated after that date and you'll have a new award notice.

You need to inform tax credits that he will be continuing in education so they don't stop your tax credits in August

It may still stop until they calculate the new award. When I was claiming Child Tax credits for my youngest daughter when she reached 16 mine stopped for a couple of weeks. Same thing happened again the following 3 years.

Yup I've read that before. So many parents forget or don't know they have to inform them. My relative didn't and did without tax credits for 6 months until I told her she should phone them.

I always reported the changes well before 31st August but it made no difference for me.
