Payment order on returned goods

Let's say I've got a balance on a credit card of:

£500 at 0%, and
£100 (relating to purchases) at 16.9%

For most credit cards when I make payments, it will pay off the 0% chunk first. What happens though if I return one of the items I bought as part of the £100? The shop will insist on refunding to the credit card, but will the credit card treat it as credit to the account to pay off the 0% chunk or the 16.9% chunk?

Thanks

The card I have in mind is a Skycard but this is a more general question as well.

Comments

  • I think all refunds and credits will go towards the cheapest (for them) and most expensive to you.
I don't think any card will appropriate funds in the way you want.
