Hastings direct with black box mileage

My daughter got insurance with hastings direct and got black box reciever in car, it was 1st car so we estimated 6000 miles fir college and back, it says they'll email when you're close to mileage, but she's now over as she got a job, but the app nor email have mentioned anything.  When it ends for renewal, can we just search and renew with whoever cheapest with no penalty? Why would they not email as stated? I don't want to alert them to mileage if I don't need to

You do realise there is an onus on the policy holder to notify change in circumstances. Your daughter seems to have 2 changes 1) A job and 2) Increased mileage.

Is she covered for commutting, has she told them about the job. Seems you are trying to avoid the increased costs of notifying the change but it could be an expensive lesson if you don't and she is involved in a bump.

Especially with a bottom feeder insurer like Hastings who are well known for finding ways to increase premiums or cancel policies. Cheap for a reason, but can be costly in the end.

In this instance it's not a case of 'Bottom feeder insurer'.  As Phoenix72 says, there are actually 3 major changes to the situation with the driver and the insurance company must be informed.  Possibly the most urgent is the commuting element as that does not come by default with many insurers now.  If she was in an accident, not only could the insurer refuse to pay out and leave her with a massive bill, she could be prosecuted for driving without insurance.
Trying to save a few quid by not informing the insurer is a very bad idea.

If they cancel her insurance, it will cost her for life.

It might be worth doing some dummy comparisons (fake name/address, incognito mode) just to see how much this will affect her premium. And then consider if it will be better to cancel her current insurance and get a new policy, or however much more her current insurer wants when she asks them.
