Meter registered as wrong address
I attempted to switch electricity suppliers in May but due to my electricity meter being registered at the wrong address (mistake made by new home builder) it all fell through. Is there a way of finding out if this error has been corrected? I have tried asking my electric supplier, EDF, but am getting nowhere fast.

Have you checked whether the meter serial number is the same as the one printed on your bill?0 -

My bills from EDF do show the same serial number as my meter but that isn't the problem I've got.
Apparently there is a main database that all the electric suppliers use that lists everybodys address and the meter serial number for that address.
For example when N Power went to take over my electric they went to the main database and put in my address to get my meter serial number. Because the database is wrong they got the wrong serial number and took over the wrong meter.
I want to move electric supplier but can't unless the main database has been corrected as the wrong meter will be taken over again.Cashback earned

Hi
Look up MPAS ( meter point advisory service) for your area. They will tell you what meter and what MPAN is registered at your property. I would certainly make sure the info is correct before you change suppliers otherwise it can be a nightmare.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0 -

Hi fossman
I had a similar problem with one of my "new" customers last year. If you contact National Grid they will check their database to see what address your MPR is showing or give you the contact details for your regional provider.

If you find that it is still wrong, ask them to give you the contact details that you need to complain. The eventual resolution for me was to contact energywatch as olly300 suggested and ask them to resolve the mistake on the National Grid database on your behalf. Give them as much information as you have available.
All the best

Thanks for the advice, I will get onto them in the new year.
I tried to switch suppliers in May and it took 6 months for them to sort it out, it was an absolute nightmare at one point I was receiving three bills (my bill from EDF, the house round the corners bill from N Power and the house round the corners bill from EDF).Cashback earned

Gave them a call this morning and asked them to confirm the supply number for my address, the number they gave me agrees to my bill so it looks like I'm free to switch provider now.
Thanks for your help.Cashback earned
