CRA Default Removal Dates

Simply posting this in case it helps others in a similar situation, as the only info I could find was a little outdated (though partially still applicable).

If your defaults are coming up to their six year anniversary, based on my current experience this and last week, then TransUnion and Equifax seem to remove them a week prior to the anniversary. In my case the account was recorded as defaulted on 27 June 2018 and both Equifax and TransUnion had deleted it off my credit file on Thursday, 19 June 2024, ie eight days before the anniversary.

However, Experian seem to delete it on the actual anniversary.

So, if you’re in this position and want to time a mortgage or other lending application to your best advantage, it’s worth knowing what credit referencing agency/ agencies the lender uses. (Some require a good score from all three, for example.)

I realise my experience might not be the rule, but it seems useful to record it here in case people are looking for current info. And in some situations a week might make a lot of difference.

Good to know, thanks for sharing.  My defaults were all registered in 2018 too and I have a  question please.  What happens to the balances of these accounts please, do they still appear in your credit figures?  Thanks
