It sounds like this is aimed at people who don't already have smart meters.

update , now its not offering me an appointment, will keep trying0 -
If you have an old SMETS1 meter, it may well be worthwhile getting it replaced. If you have a gas meter, I would upgrade that to a definitely replace - Gas meters have a battery life of around 10 years, so a SMETS1 gas meter may well be getting close.

its not offering me an appointment now, so ive messaged octopus on twitter asking if they offer me it again on my account
and both meters are a bit old i think they were fitted by first utility so that shows you how old they are0 -
and a quick very polite reply back, saying my meters are working fine but have registered for a upgrade when the smets2 are rolled out0

They have their tentacles everywhere!

Again Octopus pushing ahead and getting the older smets1meters replaced where they have excess workforce.
They did ours upgrading our 8 year old smets1 with a new smets2 some time back.
No downsides0 -
Just had the same message ! I already have a SMETS2 leccy meter but I've been trying for ~ 2 years to get a smart gas meter of any description. My gas meter is ~ 26 years old.
What's the betting that the appointment will get cancelled when they realise I don't need both meters replaced ?0 -
Just to update - the fitter turned up on the day/time appointed. To my surprise he knew that I already had a SMETS2 leccy meter and was ready to fit a new gas meter. Everything went smoothly ,he supplied me with the Octopus mini and within a few hours ,I could see my gas usage on the Octopus app. So much for my cynicism !brewerdave said:Just had the same message ! He DID say that the supply of meters is still a huge problem when I told him about my previous 3 cancelled appointments with EDF
