Tax free childcare - Nursery closed down

Hello everybody

We pay our nursery fees in advance through the “tax free childcare” account. The nursery has ceased trading but owes us money (about £1k) which the director is refusing to refund.

Are there any options to reclaim this? I was wondering about contacting the tax free childcare team or my bank?

Thank you!

Are they refusing because the business is insolvent and unable to do so?
  • Thanks for replying.

It’s not insolvent yet but a supplier has filed a winding up petition, so I’m sure it will go into administration soon!

The director is refusing to answer emails or calls and the building is closed up.

Sounds as if the Directors have been forced to cease business so as to avoid being prosecuted for trading insolvently. The Directors will have nothing to say.
  • Thank you. Do you think I have any avenues to obtain a refund (tax free childcare / bank / other) or is it just a case of joining the creditors list?

If they don't have money to pay a supplier it is unlikely they have the money to refund any fess.

No doubt you are not the only one trying to contact th director hence him not answering.

You can try the tax free help line snd/or the council but I think you will be in long line of creditors.
