Advice on EV tariff with 2 EVs
My estimated usage for electricity in a year is:
3000 KWH house
1800 car 1
600 car 2.
Total 5400 KWH.
At the moment we have a tariff through OVO that discounts the car 1 use down to 9p/ KWH. Car 2 is of the type that can't pass over control to a 3rd party and so charge is at full price for that one. (The difference in usage is because of the tariff situation we deliberately use car 1 whenever possible.) Moving usage to the middle of the night isn't something we do.
The tariff at the moment discounts the car 1 charging without adding any increase to the daytime tariff, which was the reason we have kept to it up to now. It is galling to pay full rate for car 2, so I wondered if anyone had any better ideas on tariffs.

Intelligent Octopus. So long as you have a compatible wall box to link to your account, rather than either of the cars.
Price just reduced to 7p
We have 2 EV's & Ohme Home Pro. Neither of the cars are linked to wall box for charge limits. I do it all manually.Life in the slow lane1 -
Our charger is a podpoint, I don’t think that is compatible, though I guess the Tesla may be. Would still leave car 2 at full price and the standard rate is higher than the price cap I believe.born_again said:Intelligent Octopus. pretty sure it's
Ohme, Zappi & wallbox. Could always ring & ask about pod point.
2nd car in 11:30 to 05:30 & Tesla in daytime if you get the intelligent part. Personally never had a issue getting daytime charges @ off peak rates.Life in the slow lane0 -
There’s also Octopus Go which is tech agnostic. They’ve just upped it to a 5hr window and dropped the rate to 8.5p/kWhSmart Tech Specialist with Octopus Energy Services (all views my own). 4.44kW SW Facing in-roof array with 3.6kW Givenergy Gen 2 Hybrid inverter and 9.5kWh Givenergy battery. 9kW Panasonic Aquarea L (R290) ASHP. #gasfree since July ‘230

Thanks. Worth looking at Octopus it seems. Is the standard rate higher than the price cap? The beauty of the current set up is that day time rate is at the price cap, and we are heavy users. So even though it is frustrating charging car 2 at the price cap, I need to balance that against all my day time units being at the price cap rather than higher.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Just use the Tesla with the Intelligent Octopus Go integration and charge EV 2 at 11:30pm. And do use the cheap overnight electricity for things like the dishwasher etc.0

This applies to your entire house so you could be charging one car with the 7 kW charger (that I presume you have) whilst simultaneously charging the other car more slowly with a "granny charger" at 2.35 kW.bristolleedsfan said:

Yes, we have a 7Kwh podpoint charger. Always worried about fusing the whole house if I draw so much for so long, I know in theory it’s fine.Reed_Richards said:

As long as your house fuse is sufficient, you should be fine. When our podpoint was installed, the pre-installation visit required us to upgrade it from 60 to 100amp before they would install it. We charge on the podpoint whilst the dishwasher is on at cheap rate and more importantly, the 30amp AGA. Plus, we are going to get some batteries installed to charge overnight.silvercar said:

We haven't gone to a car tariff as the AGA needs the 7 hours and 4 or 5 hours isn't enough.
