Post Office Insurance Society

My mother has sadly passed away and we are starting to go through her paperwork. We have found a policy that relates to my late father who worked for the Post Office. The policy was in a side cupboard and we are pretty sure that my mother knew nothing of this policy even when my late father passed away. My Father started the policy in 1975, I have tried contacting Tried POIS who directed me to the Foresters Friendly Society, who advise they do not hold any records in his name and was directed to Middlezoy Post Office (one Family), they too advise that they do not hold any records in his name and that It may be held with Aviva. Aviva have no records either. Researching the FCA Mutual Societies list register, it suggests that the Post Office Insurance Society was deregistered 10/07/1980. I have contacted the FCA to try to determine who may have taken over this policy and I’m still await a response. Would anybody on here have any pointers please?

Does the certificate have the full name of the issuing company?
POIS Assurance transferred to Family Assurance Friendly Society aka OneFamily,
Post Office Insurance Society Staff Superannuation Fund was deregistered in the 80s but the LTD of trustees were Family Assurance directors and its their address too.
Obviously it's very possible that it was previously cashed in and they just didnt throw away the old certificate. When companies do transfers it won't include former customers with no active products0 -
@DullGreyGuy thank you for your response.
There are no other company names detailed n the documentation we have found. It just states that its from ‘Post Office Insurance Society’ Policy of Assurance and a with-profits policy. It has a policy number, my late fathers name and DOB, an entry date of 1975, and a maturity date 10 years later in 1985. Maybe you are correct and that it has paid out so this is just old documentation?2 Separate arrays, 7 x JASolar 380w panels (2.66kWp) south facing, 4 x JASolar 380w panels (1.52kWp) east facing, 11 x Tigo optimizers & cloud, Growatt SPH5000, Growatt 6.5kWh Hybrid battery (Go-live 01/12/21) - Additional reporting via Solar Assistant.0 -
With a maturity date of 1985. Would have been paid out. Back then 10 year life assurance savings plans were common products.1

Thank you both, that's been most helpful, just the rest of the mountain of paperwork to go through now. Mum was not helpful, refused to discuss or agree to the POAs, just advised all that you will need is in the drawer!2 Separate arrays, 7 x JASolar 380w panels (2.66kWp) south facing, 4 x JASolar 380w panels (1.52kWp) east facing, 11 x Tigo optimizers & cloud, Growatt SPH5000, Growatt 6.5kWh Hybrid battery (Go-live 01/12/21) - Additional reporting via Solar Assistant.0
