NEST Pension

I know I have numerous NEST Pensions, as I have had lots of short term employment since 2000, I only have the plan details of my last NEST pension. I have filled out so many forms and "begged" NEST to merge all my little Pensions into the main one. I have given my ID; NI; DoB; Address etc etc - They say that some Employers have submitted different details, however I am sure my NI, Address; Name and DoB must be the same in all Plans?
What can I do as NEST are being difficult, is there an ombudsmen for Pensions?
I cannot be held for mistakes previous employers have made? I cannot read their minds...LOL
I will Transfer out the minute I can from NEST!!!! Ridiculous

They say that some Employers have submitted different details, however I am sure my NI, Address; Name and DoB must be the same in all Plans? That would be an unsafe assumption. Payroll teams often send very little info to the auto enrolment scheme. I have seen them with initials instead of full names. Middle names mixed in with the first name. DOB errors, NIC errors, spelling errors etc. Errors in details would prevent them being linked.
e.g. John Smith DOB 21/12/2000 vs John Smith DOB 12/12/2000. They cannot assume its the same person. What can I do as NEST are being difficult, is there an ombudsmen for Pensions? How are they being difficult?
Where incorrect data is held in key details, such as name, DOB and NIC, the normal route is to supply evidence to the provider and they will correct it.I cannot be held for mistakes previous employers have made? I cannot read their minds...LOLActually, you do have some responsibility. When the pension was set up, you would have been sent a communication asking you to check details. So, no mind reading should be involved.I will Transfer out the minute I can from NEST!!!! RidiculousJust do what they ask then to get it corrected.

As dunstonh says, it's your responsibility to check the details each time you are enrolled in a pension scheme. Did you do so? Did you actually ever receive any confirmation that you'd been auto-enrolled? That wouldn't have happened until post-2012 at the earliest (and quite likely to be some years later), and if you have had a lot of short term jobs with small employers, you may never have qualified for auto-enrolment where the jobs were under 3 months in duration.
Give NEST a ring: 0300 020 0090 or see https://www.nestpensions.org.uk/schemeweb/nest/contact-us/complaints.html on how to make a complaint after logging in (probably the better method in your case).
Googling on your question might have been both quicker and easier, if you're only after simple facts rather than opinions!0 -
I've had a number of jobs and all the contributions end up in the same place - sometimes my name has been different, but my NI Number and DOB are always the same, and they match the ones on my HMRC account.
It's one thing I think everybody should make sure.
It does bear the question, though if you have different NI numbers, then you may not have had the correct NI contributions registered which will impact how much state pension you will receive in the future.
You need to check that out as well.1 -
I have a case going on at the moment where the NI is wrong with one of the providers. It's the third case this year of wrong NI.
I have another going on where the surname is spelt incorrectly. That one is proving a bit harder than normal to resolve as the surname is also wrong with HMRC. So, any documents they produce don't help. He is in his 60s and its been wrong with HMRC for as long as he can remember but never chose to resolve it. It doesn't help that he gave me the wrong NI number and the providers are asking for HMRC details to verify the NI but with the wrong surname spelling they wont accept that.

It does pay to check these things at the time - I had a devil of a job changing one pension which the employer had set up with my nickname (think Caz not Caroline). I didn't notice as everything was set up that way - email, user ids etc. It was only when I came to transfer that one elsewhere, some years after after leaving, that I had to get it sorted.I’m a Senior Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Pensions, Annuities & Retirement Planning, Loans

HMRC had the wrong DoB for my late mother. only by one day, but as that was 5/6 April it made a difference.
