Money transfer from overseas

Hello!
My wife is owed some money by a friend from overseas (about £200). We suggested Paypal but she doesn't have an account - she said she can send money to our current account based on the 16 digit Visa (debit) card number.
We provided it and she sent the money Friday/Saturday last week. We trust her and she's also sent us a copy of the electronic confirmation she received. However no money has yet arrived.
I've not heard of sending money to a debit card number before, but apparently it's quite common in her country (Tajikistan).
Apparently the money hasn't been bounced back to her (yet) either so we are at a bit of a loss.
Any ideas what might have happened and how we or she should take this forward?
Not sure if it makes any difference but our account is with Nationwide. The money was sent in Euros but looking at the confirmation form she forwarded it says receiving account is denominated in dollars (although she says she didn't put that herself, it seems to have been autofilled by her bank).

It's strange to see what other countries do to move money. My brother offered to text me a large sum I was owed. I have no idea how that is supposed to work.
If the money does bounce back to her account ask her to send it to you using your IBAN. You can send/deposit money to a debit card via the likes of Western Union or Moneygram. Not sure how fast they are.1
