Tesco / Horizon parking

Hi,
I recently visited a different Tesco store. Whilst there I did some shopping and then met up with a friend who lived nearby in the instore Costa Coffee. We had ginormous coffees and cake and total time parked was just over 2.5 hours.

Admittedly I didn’t think there would be parking time limits as it was a different store to my normal one.
I appreciate that’s no excuse and I should have been more aware but given I spent the entire time spending money in their store, is there anything I can do? Or do I just need to suck it up?
is it worth speaking with Tesco first or do I appeal the fine?
any help appreciated. Thanks

You haven't said, but have Horizon sent you a parking charge notice or are you just expecting one soon?
When you have a PCN it is always worth speaking to Tesco first.2 -
Ok, first you have not been fined so get that bit of panic over.Next up, you should always complain to the landowner , remember this is not a fine refer to it as a parking charge invoice from an unregulated parking company - or to be more precise..I was surprised to receive a Parking charge notice from your agents, the unregulated parking company known as Horizon parkingAnother point is that you do not identify the driverSome key points to put in are:
- Horizon parking, are an un regulated parking company
- Tesco are jointly liable for the actions of their agents - such as third party parking companies
- You are surprised that a company such as Tesco allows an un regulated company such as Horizon to operate on Tescos land
- You are shocked and horrified that Tesco see fit to allow an unregulated company such as Horizon to operate on their land
Some of the other regulars on here will be able to add more, such as the DHLUC probe into PPCs as well as comments from MPs about the parking industry, which can all be woven into a complaint to show you are no push overFrom the Plain Language Commission:

If you have received it, can we please see a redacted copy of the Notice to Keeper (both sides) with personal and VRM details obscured, but leave all dates showing.
Please note, we are not a legal advice forum. I personally don't get involved in critiquing court case Defences/Witness Statements, so unable to help on that front. Please don't ask. .

I'm assuming that because you have wrongly mentioned the word "fine" that you have already received a PCN from Horizon. As there are two version of Horizon NtKs, is your PoFA compliant or not? The Newbies/FAQ thread explains the difference.
Why wouldn't you try Plan A first? "Speaking" with Tesco is of no use. You need to go as high up the management food chan as possible. Forget about "speaking" with a customer service lackey. Email the CEO and CC in the store manager with a complaint about how outraged you are, as a loyal customer, to be sent an invoice for £100 (or whatever Horizon are charging these days) for being a patron of their business.
Point out how much business they would lose if you, your family and friends decided that the chance of a £100 invoice from an unregulated private parking company just for being patrons of their stores is not worth the risk and chose to take their business elsewhere. You get my drift.
Also, depending on whether the NtK is PoFA compliant, an appeal would be the next step. We don't know whether the NtK is or isn't PoFA compliant so it is difficult to advise on how to word it.
"Just sucking it up" is not the right attitude and is exactly what Horizon hope for.2 -

Thanks everyone. I panicked I think because I have another ongoing 'case' that I'll post about shortly.
I spoke to Tesco who did nothing. I'm on Tony's fb group so in the end I just paid him the £16 to get it cancelled. I guess at least the money didn't go to them.A&L charges WON - Barclaycard charges WON - MBNAx3 charges WON - Halifax charges WON

And did "Tony" get it cancelled for £16? You could have done it here for £0.
I did mention "It depends on whether you are "A fool and their money" early on in this thread and it has been answered.2 -

That's Tony Taylor who used to work for UKPC. Don't stay on his FB Group. Stop paying him money.
A toxic FB group IMHO and I've no idea why people think he is any good. He has no idea about court defences and you don't need to pay an ex-clamper. This was SO EASY to win.PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).

Of course it is. Let them try court, I am sure that a judge would see the merit of your defence. You never know how far you can go until you go too far.2 -
