Bath water not draining away

Hi

This morning I noticed the water wasn’t draining away after I had had a shower. I used a drain snake to check if there was any blockage but found nothing. Water bubbles up into the bath when I run water from the bathroom sink as well. It seems like the water isn’t moving through the pipes directly under the plug hole but I have no idea why.

Does anyone have any advice as to what could be causing this please?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you

Probably a ball of hair in the combined waste.  Something like https://www.screwfix.com/p/zep-10-minute-hair-clog-remover-drain-unblocker-1ltr/739kh would probably solve such.
  • I would agree and go with some sort of drain unblocker.

While on the Screwfix site check out the Sink and Bath Unblocker 125mm at £4.99, better than using chemicals in my opinion, and can be used to draw debris out of the plug hole.

    Have you tried a plunger?
I've found they work well and quite enjoy the experience :D
It often pulls out a whole load of gunk straight away.

I do a regular clean of my bathroom sinks and shower with bicarbonate of soda and white vinegar (£1 each) and a teapot spout brush. It cleans up before the problem - hopefully. The brush also brings out any hair.

I can rise and shine - just not at the same time!

    Thank you for your replies.

I will try using some drain blocker and see how it goes.

there is only one reason water drains slowly, there is a constriction in the diameter of the waste pipe...
    your options are:
    a) physical agitation with a "snake" type device to dislodge it
    or
    b) use a chemical to dissolve it

Remember to block the overflow airtight when you use it.

I often find drain unblockers are pretty ineffective and can be expensive. I use caustic, works every time.

Try the plunger before the chemical option, if you do it the other way round you risk covering yourself in drain cleaning chemicals. Those that won't damage you probably wont be effective at clearing the blockage. A plunger will usually clear within a few goes and you have it for next time. IF, you need to go for chemicals then something like one shot will get through pretty much anything. You need to be very very careful using it as the acid will burn. Use it as a last resort.

I have to say that's top advice.
If chemicals are needed, then I swear by good old-fashioned caustic soda.  Some while ago I bought a big 5KG tub of powder from Ebay, I think it cost about £15 or £20, something like that.  There's enough in there to keep me going for years.
DO be careful when mixing and using it, though.  It's very effective stuff, but seriously nasty if you splash it on your skin, and I hate to think what would happen if you got some in your eye.
