I had a power cut, my meter is blank I've got a prepayment meter not smart, I've rang EDF they said they need to replace it but they wont replace it for the same one as they don't make these meters anymore, and they have to replace it with a smart one is this right?

To all intents and purposes, yes. The good news is that smart prepayment charges are less (or they were last time I looked) and there are lots of different options for topping up. So nothing to be concerned about and good news really 😊

Yes, they will replace faulty or those beyond their service lifetime with Smart meters be them pre-payment or not.

As alluded to above, it should make life easier as the topping up is far less hassle than the old style ones. The other advantage will be that if down the line you wanted to switch to credit rather than prepayment, that would be able to be done remotely as long as you met the criteria for the change obviously, so you'll have some added flexibility there.

Prepayment price cap is the same for all types of prepayment meter.  Not sure if some suppliers offer cheaper deals for smart meters though

If you're lucky they won't get around to replacing it too quickly like the thousands out there the same for all suppliers.
