Options
Hi, couple rate income support now have to change over to UC.  Any advice welcome on how to cope whilst this changeover takes place and how to pay rent etc.  hubby is my carer and receive pip as recently had a stroke.  Do we ask for discretionary housing benefit claim and  a social fund loan?  Any advice much appreciated as not sure how is the best way to cope as will be without money.  Tia.

You should get a run on of 2 weeks with IS and HB.
Also you can get an advance with UC.

When you claim UC you will need to make sure you report your health condition and provide a fit note. You will then be referred for a work capability assessment.

Please also note that if you ask for an advance payment, this will need to be repaid back and your future UC payments will be reduced.

Hi Essex Girl as you wrote "husband is my carer".. i am assuming you are already on PIP ( but couldnt tell if you meant he was too) and possibly already recieving ESA?

I'm just going through this too (probably best to avoid my thread as i'm not coping very well).  I just wanted to message to say i have been told by the phone lines that it takes a little while for the UC account to get info from the PIP, ESA, IS, Carers departments etc and add it to your file. But the screen that they see at UC clearly states it is a 'migration' and they know that means there is other info to come.

If you need an appointment for ID verification and initial set up this can be done by home visit if you cant go in.. i was offered this, but they can also postpone some  of the things whilst they get your file together.  I have had the requirement to get a fit note suspended as I am in support group whilst they get info.

    I hope evrything goes smoothly
