Scrapping of a will

Options
Hi, i'm wondering how to scrap a will and make a new one and will there be a charge? Is it easy to do?  Also i'm thinking about putting someone on my will but i dont know where they live, although i do know of an older family member. Then some for a certain charity.

A new will will revoke previous wills automatically.

Usually, the first paragraph of your new will revokes the previous will.

Depending on the charity, they may cover the costs.  Or there is a free will month https://freewillsmonth.org.uk/

You need to give a little thought to who to ask to be an executor.  If there is nobody, you could ask a solicitor to do it.

When you make a new will it revokes/invalidates any previous ones, providing it is correctly dated signed & witnessed.  You can DIY, go through the charity's wills department that you are naming as a beneficiary, or you can go through a solicitor & for the latter there will be a charge.  Cost will depend on complexity.  Avoid cheap will writing services.  A solicitor will advise on any queries you may have & will make sure the will is not open to misinterpretation or likely to cause trouble for your executor(s) in the event of a challenge.  My solicitor recommended leaving a previous will copy with my revised one to show the changes I had made.  You can also include your wishes for when you die - burial, cremation, leave body to medical science, type of funeral service etc.

If leaving money to a charity the solicitor will know the correct description/number of your specified charity so it cannot be confused with one with a similar name.  You will need there to be some way of executors contacting your beneficiary with unknown address, but this can be via another person.
