You don't have to be in receipt of your pension to use the new service. I am 3 months away and it allowed me to sign up and change my pension to be paid weekly. You do, however, have to have recived the original letter from DWP asking you to make your claim for state pension as it contains a one off code to make the claim. This usually happens 3-4 months before your birthday.0
