Bank can’t reinstate direct debit cancelled by finance company with same reference

My business vehicle finance company cancelled my direct debit for some unknown reason and when I told them, they tried to reinstate it. But my business bank (Cashplus) automatically cancelled it because it had the same reference number (finance agreement number so can’t be changed) as the original direct debit that the finance company cancelled. Each side is blaming the other, saying only the other can help and not being very helpful. I’ve never heard of a bank not allowing a direct debit to be reinstated because it’s got the same reference as the one previously cancelled. I know the finance company created the problem but the bank who could easily resolve this by reinstating it, is being very unhelpful. Does anyone know if this is something I could push the bank on? I’ve even asked to make a complaint and they’ve said they won’t take a complaint from me as it was the finance company who originally cancelled the direct debit and they’ve done nothing wrong as their system won’t allow a direct debit to be reinstated if the reference is the same as the one cancelled by the finance company. I’m just going round in circles & getting very frustrated!

could you open a second account at the bank, have the DD paid from there and set up a SO from ac1 to ac21

Can the finance company (who caused the problem in the first place) not set up a new DD mandate with a new reference? Their system should be able to cope with servicing a loan from a second reference?0
