I'm helping my brother move from legacy benefits over to uc and he would like to get his payment on the first of the month. When is he best starting his claim for uc?
Any help appreciated

26th June.0

If he applies 26 June his assessment period will be 26 June - 25 July and payment will be 5-7 days later. So possibly 31 Jul/01 Aug.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.

Do also note that due to different lengths of each month, his payment date will vary slightly. The date he applies sets the assessment period dates, rather than the payment date.
Obviously the most variation will be the Jan/Feb assessment period, with the payment date being early March not the 1st.0 -

Is there is a certain reason?

I was previous informed by a user on this forum who is in such a situation of their AP ending near the end of the month, and so their payments made at the begining of the next month, that UC do in fact fix the payment date in such cases so that it's the same date each month and doesn't move about with different length months.
(Not sure if I'll be able to find that post again now).

Ok, that's a bit pedantic though HSB and you know what I meant.Let's try - in such cases the payment date is fixed barring the usual variation for weekends and bank holidays. So if you get paid UC on the 1st then it wiil always be on the 1st unless the 1st falls on a weekend/BH in which case it will be paid on the last working day before the 1st.0

It be good if someone could find that info, as I don't see how it does work, as UC works on AP, and that's what payday on based on. So would be interested to find out how it does work.

As I understand it the AP dates are fixed as usual, the payment date is also set at a particular date each month. (as usual, allowing for we/bh).So it's just the number of days between the AP end and payment dates that can vary if the 2 dates span the month end.Just as the number of days between AP end and payment can vary if the payment date falls on a we/bh.That number of days is not set in stone and can be, and is, varied as needed.PS.Sorry but I'm struggling to find that post where it was brought up before.0

Once fixed after a few months the claimant can expect the payment date to be on the same date, give or take a weekend/bh. It’s the same with all payments going in and on rare occasions some banks may even show Mondays payments on a Saturday.
The only other, albeit longwinded way around this is set up another bank account, get paid into the second account and then on 01 of each month move the money into the main account.Proud to have dealt with our debtsStarting debt 2005 £65.7K.
