The term "settlement"

My policy allows me to get in professionals to assess the repair.
I'm being asked to sign a mandate for payment which refers to being paid a sum of money in settlement for the specification for the repairs.
I have been told by the loss adjuster this is not a final settlement for the issue.
But the way I read it, is that it is a settlement for the specification of repairs and if I needed more investigation work the I could not claim for it as I had agreed on a settlement for the specification for the repairs.
So what is it? If I sign it will I not be allowed anymore claims for the specification of work?

Don't believe anything that anyone says verbally, send them an email wait for a response and then reply telling them what you have understood from their email.
Side note, tell them which documents have been sent to you as insurance providers seem to pull documentation and terms out their backside as soon as you make a claim these days. They need to prove they sent you these terms prior to you making a claim.1 -
Yes I also say get confirmation of everything you understand in writing, Just as liveletlive says.
Also take lots of photos at every stage. Before and after. This is invaluable, if anything goes wrong with any Contractor etc.
