house move, selling car, and V5C log book

I'm moving out of my current address at the end of the month and will be staying in temporary accommodation for a couple of weeks until I sell my car (after which I will travel abroad). I'll let my car insurance know of the new address but I don't know what to do about the DVLA and the need to get a new V5C log book. Will the old V5C be valid until I receive the new one? And can I sell the car with the old one? Presumably there cannot be a discrepancy between the address on the insurance and the V5C. If I live in temporary accommodation while attempting to sell the car, will I need a new V5C every time I move, say to a different guest house? I’m used to staying at an address for a long time, so this is an entirely new set of circumstances for me, and I’d appreciate any advice you might be able to give me.

The V5C needs to be accurate as that is the registered keepers address - anyone from the authorities who need to contact you about the vehicle for any reason will use the address on the V5C (police, council etc.). If you got a speeding ticket and it didn't make it to you, could end up in all sorts of bother for the sake of a bit of admin. Plus, might make it more difficult to sell if the RK address is different to where you are actually selling it from.

Do you have a permanent address you can use e.g. parents, brother/sister, good friends etc. Doesn't really matter who they are if you are selling it, but if there is someone, you can get that sorted before you move. You can use any address you want for the registered keeper as long as it is an address that you can be contacted through.

Alternative is to sell it now, and use public transport, taxis, walk, cycle etc. until you leave. Save a lot of hassle.

With hindsight, if I had thought things through, that would have been the right course of action, but I have now given notice to vacate where I am and need to get on with the move asap. I don't have time to organise the car sale as well.

If I were to change my address on the V5C, I read that it would take a minimum of 5 working days to receive the new one. What happens if it takes longer or is lost in the post? In the meantime I would not be able to use the old one to sell the car. Is that right? My worry is that I might get trapped in expensive temporary accomodation for much longer than I bargained for.

Are you selling the car privately? If so then you want to change the V5 to an address you can sell the car from, but that doesn't necessarily need to be where you are staying as long as you can be contacted via it.

If you're selling it into the trade, a buyer service or whatever, then you should be fine to use the old V5.
