Considering getting a car alarm - Microscan

Thinking of getting an alarm to stop people messing with my car and getting all excited over it. It may of course encourage kids, and adults who genuinely have with the mentality of kids, to mess with it more - I am hoping they don't want attention drawn to what they're doing (like other criminals), and the social pressure of annoying the other neighbours by setting an alarm off - combined with me running out of my front door with a wheel brace to smack them across the head with, will stop them messing about.

Anyway, I have looked for the best cheap option and have come up with either a Microscan AN414 or AN424 http://www.microscanalarms.co.uk/400series_alarms.htm , for the microwave function so if anyone stands in close proximity to the car for too long it will set it off. Are these a waste of time and money? Are there better options?

As for installing I would be doing this myself, but being an amateur I might have to make use of some scotchloks for some parts of it. I know how to take the instrument panel and glovebox out so should be able to find some way of routing the cables to and from the engine compartment. I *think* I can get behind the ignition switch and should be able to find out the correct wire. Main bit that worries me is drilling the two holes, I suppose I could try no more nails adhesive tape depending on the weight of the siren.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

  • lol,why does this thread not surprize me!

you may not need to drill extra holes, you may find an existing hole that is threaded,or just double up on something that is already there, remove the nut/bolt and then fit siren over the stud and refit the nut/bolt.

as for the alarm i cant really help you there.
