Just running this by anyone who might know if I'm missing something.
I use my home address as my business address for Tax / Ebay /Amazon but if I don't actually do the physical work there or hold stock there am I right in thinking I can just add 'clerical business use' to my home insurance? to ensure I'm not voiding my home insurance by not declaring that I technically run a business there.

Edited hopefully for more clarity.

What aspects of "business" insurance are you seeking cover for?

Ah sorry I should have explained better, I don't really want any aspects of business insurance, I'm just aware that it could possibly void my home insurance if I don't tell them that I'm technically running a business from home.

Where are your products held then?

If you have a lockup somewhere and your products never enter your home, or you are selling a non-physical product, etc then yes just writing reviews or filling in your tax returns etc are all clerical work which would need to be declared. Note that Home insurance does vary on if it gives any cover for business assets or not even if you do declare you do clerical work from home.

Obviously many people hold their stock at home and that then moves you out of just being clerical work. People can also get unstuck with their car insurance if they are ferrying all their sales from their home/lockup to the Post Office in their car.

My products are not delivered or held at home.
By the by, I recently bought a product liability insurance and also have business car insurance which oddly brings my car quote down.
I've not been holding or doing anything with stock at my home for some time and it's only the massive increase in my usual insurance quote this year that's made me look at if I even need it.

It would be unusual for an SME business to buy product liability, you'd normally buy public liability which at this end of the market has product liability embedded.

Hopefully you've checked with your insurer for Motor that "business" is appropriate if you are transporting goods/stock... certainly business is appropriate if its just getting your around to your various suppliers etc.

I just checked and it's called *'commercial liability insurance' what I recently bought, supposedley to cover me in the event of one of my products harming the buyer in some way.

*Edit: this has both public and product liability. It's something that Amazon are now insisting we have

I'm not sure I understand what you mean about the car insurance?
