    Really, you should get someone to have a look straight away.  A gas safety inspection is around £60, but the gas company may send someone to have a look for free.  This happened to me, smelt gas and got someone round from British GAs within the hour.  They deemed it all safe.

    Be quick acting if you are unsure of gas appliances, or any aspect of gas safety.
