Parked outside the marked bay in large car park that was half empty?

Hello

My partner's van was parked outside the marked bay (wheel over the dividing line between bays) in a half empty retail car park last week. The van was parked for about 10 minutes and was not parked fully within a marked bay. The area of the car park in which the van was parked was at the back of the car park and completely empty with no other cars nearby and dozens of empty spaces all around. This is clearly shown by the photographs taken by the warden at the time. As the keeper of the van, he today received a Parking Charge Notice from "Premier Park" for the sum of £100 (£60 if paid within 14 days of issued date, which is 9 days from today).

Is it worth appealing this or should he resign himself to losing over half a day's wages and pay?

You partner broke the rule and so has to pay the penalty.  This is about the terms & conditions of the car park, not about whether there was any impact on anyone/anything else.
  • Thank you all for the advice. I'm inclined to agree that the rules were clearly stated (even if they had not been noticed or read) and that the way the vehicle was parked was in breach of them but to be issued with a parking charge notice for £100 seems excessive and disproportionate to the situation. I'm not sure that we would be comfortable with ignoring this notice or any subsequent letters and allowing it to progress to court stage though, that would be so stressful for both of us. Or mainly me as I would be the one doing all the research and worrying!

Yes you can.  You can do that. Several of my relatives & friends are doing exactly that and once you feel empowered, you'll laugh at the £170 threatograms.

We'll assist but don't show us the letters because they are laughable and we've seen it all before. Nothing bad happens, as long as you don't move house and not tell them.

DO NOT PAY A PRIVATE PARKING CHARGE.
PRIVATE 'PCN'? DON'T PAY BUT DON'T IGNORE IT (except N.Ireland).
