So by no means do I want a perfect garden lawn but I have had a little spare time and I do have 2 dogs so it’s never going to be perfect lol.

so just some advice on I’m I doing the right thing I’m cutting regular and pretty short and I’m going round every now and then cutting out weeds as far down as the root with a knife and gentle lifting it out then putting down more grass seeds if there’s big gaps to hopefully grow back more grass.
will this method work thanks.

That depends on the weather - if it's dry the seeds may germinate then die; but as it's only small patches you can always sow again. If you fill the holes with compost mixed with grass seed then water the hole well that might be more effective as the compost protects the young seedlings

That’s exactly what I’ve been doing thanks for the reply because it’s only small parts as well easy to water and not dry up seem to be growing back ok but is this an effective way of removing weeds like I said not looking for perfection

I have front garden i am going to attack this weekend. It's not actually a lawn at present just a field of dandelions. I will get some compost as i did just plan on throwing seeds down after digging them out.

Feed the grass with proper lawn feed - this will help it to compete with the weeds - and also don't cut it really short because you're taking away the photosynthesising parts. Look at the weeds - they have broad, flat leaves that go under the mower cut and can still photosynthesise, so you need to let the grass be long enough to outgrow them

Lookin' to tackle those pesky weeds, eh? Yer on the right track, mate! Keepin' the lawn trimmed and diggin' out the roots with a knife is sound. But listen, don't mow too short – let the grass grow a bit to outcompete the weeds. Chuck some lawn feed in there, give the seeds a good drink, and Bob's yer uncle! Keep the patience, and soon enough, you'll have a footy pitch-worthy garden. Keep graftin'!
    Confused!

So just been going over the garden going to pick up lawn feed tomorrow but there is one area that I’ve always wondered what the hell is it like it’s a really tough part of grass but is almost like straw when it grows and if I don’t cut the grass is almost like an island separated from the rest of the grass
