How do I connect a smart speaker to my smartphone?

Hello!
I'm trying to connect a smart speaker to my smartphone using the MyConnectHome app. When I open the app, I get a message saying "Please on-board your router." I try to connect, but the QR code won't scan, and when I enter the router data manually, I get a message saying "This device is having trouble connecting." The router is working fine, so I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong.
If anyone can help me figure this out, I would be very grateful!

There's a 'Techie' forum on this site - a better place to ask, I think.
But I'm sure some knowledgeable folks will be along soon anyways...

Yes, I mixed up the sections, sorry. Is there a way to move it to the right one?

I will ask the forum team to move it.

How close is your phone to the router when you try to connect?

My experience is that a lot of apps need to be very close for that initial setup. Once connection has been established it will probably reconnect and work OK wherever there is enough wifi signal.

Need a lot more info, like what devices are you trying to connect and is by Bluetooth or WiFi. OP might be better off calling the support line (if any) for the smart speaker.

MyConnectHome is for managing your router and wouldn’t normally be involved in setting up a smart speaker.

The general process for a smart speaker is:

Install the appropriate app (eg Alexa for an Amazon speaker)
Turn on Bluetooth and WiFi on the phone
    Turn on speaker.
Follow spoken instructions and in app instructions with the phone near the speaker.

    Thank you for your reply!
The router is close to my phone. I was holding the router in one hand and entering the data on my phone, but it still doesn't work.

I have a Google Nest Mini speaker and watched a video on YouTube that said the MyConnectHome app is suitable for setting up the speaker. However, when I open the app, it says, "Please onboard your router." There’s no way to add the speaker without completing this step.
I was wondering if maybe not all routers are compatible with this app or if specific characteristics are needed.

Why not just follow the instructions that came with it.
