Why is that?   Just a question in general

People who buy cars and don’t know how to, or how should they, maintain them. There is a wealth of information about car maintenance in manuals supplied with cars, books, magazines and the internet. They seem to prefer posting questions on forums hoping strangers provide the answers for them rather than being self taught. Applies to all aspects of life, not just cars.

Kipping in your car overnight at the roadside is not a recognised form of wild camping and is thankfully banned in many parts of the West Coast. Please do show some consideration and respect for the families that live there by taking advantage of the many beautiful and low-cost campsites that exist throughout the West of Scotland.

I feel confident that if I turned up outside your house late one night in my dressing gown and did a poo outside of your front door, that you would feel somewhat disappointed too.

Lol  I have absolutely zero intention of kipping outside someone's house, it would be certainly be in either free or low cost park ups

It's not great sleeping in a car or van than hasn't been properly converted.
Ventilation tends to be a problem.

It might be ok as a one off but repeatedly sleeping in a car will cause condensation to form and everything will start to get damp very quickly.
Your car, even in a Scottish summer will heat up in the day like a greenhouse then at night the temp drops.
Add in you and perhaps a partner breathing in and out all night and you'll soon have a problem.
The condensation you usually have on a crisp morning outside of your car will also be on the inside.

It might only seem like the surfaces are damp but it'll work it's way into all the electrics, eventually causing corrosion on all the connectors and electronics.
You'll also wake up pretty damp in the mornings.

Your basic caravan or camper will has a least an opening skylight and other vents and louvers to allow moist air in and out or in the case of some trick and expensive caravans and campers, a climate control system that dries the air inside.

My sister bought a converted mini camper based on a Fiat Doblo that someone did a bad job on converting and it was like a tropical rainforest inside in the mornings. Mould quickly started to form even when it wasn't in use.
We ended up ripping out most of the inside as it soon went rotten.

All it took was some modding of the cars normal vents in the rear side panels and a mushroom vent on the roof and it's been fine every since.

One thing that stands out on motoring forums. Is a total lack of RTFM 😶‍🌫️

You would be amazed at some of the sights we've seen... one time we went out for a walk with the dog and met a group of children coming down the road - screaming at the tops of their voices, all sat in a BOAT which was strapped to the top of a large MPV, being driving by Daddy who was also hanging out of the driver's window filming the whole thing!

Local police interviewed the driver - denied everything of course - police came to tell us no offence had been committed, we then all enjoyed watching a lovely wee video I'd taken.  Two red-faced officers realised they've been made to look like total idiots... things appeared to go rapidly downhill for the driver from there...  :D
