Eon to Octopus Tracker?
My Eon next fix ends in 18 days and i want to try Octopus tracker but have a few questions.
I have solar panels that produce around 4000 kwh a year
I am a low user, Elec 1000 kwh a year from grid and Gas 7000 kwh from grid but i would use more gas if the price was low.
I know it varies but am i going to get lower prices using tracker than a standard tariff?
What are the gas prices like in winter and how do you know what the prices are?
Is there a historic table of prices so i can see how they vary through the year.

gastracker.uk will give historic prices for the older versions of the tariff, but you'd have to put a few pence on the electricity tariffs to get the equivalent price for the current tariffs. Not sure how much of a price difference there is for gas, likely just a fraction of a penny since it's so much cheaper per kWh anyway.
But with the usual caveat about past performance not indicating future success - it's only useful if things stay fairly stable. There are known unknowns and unknown unknowns.
[That said, if it does go higher than you're comfortable with, you can simply come off it and onto the SVT. There would then be a 9-month waiting period to go back onto Tracker though, under current T&Cs.]0 -
Just switch. Then if it goes wrong you can move back to SVR anytime.
I did that with Agile last year, still on it with no plan to leave and not having a single day over more expensive than SVR.
You get the rate in Octopus app the day before, but recently Tracker doesn't vary much - rough guess your bills will be 20% cheaper - so with your usage maybe like £50 saved?1 -
For information last winter gas and electricity tracker prices were averaging around 4p/kwh and 17p/kwh respectively. Some regional variation but a significant saving on SVR.0

Thanks, I am going to risk it.
It was gas prices in winter that I most concerned with as that is the bulk of my bill although right now its standing charges.0 -
It's not a risk, as you can switch back to the SVT anytime by giving them a ring. The only downside is you need to keep an eye on the daily prices.Krakkkers said:Thanks, I am going to risk it.

Exactly that, there's not much risk involved - SVR with EON and SVR with Octopus costs almost the same - and as there is no notice period you can move back anytime. But have a look at the last 365 days (second chart):Alnat1 said:

It averaged to about 20p per kWh with current prices it's 20% cheaper. There were some more expensive days of 29p and once it dipped below 10p - so every single day it was cheaper than SVR. What will it be like this winter? Nobody knows.. but I wouldn't expect much difference.
Agile is the risky one - as it had 67p and -8p in the last 365 days

Risk is high gas user could be on gas tracker during warmer months using hardly any gas, during coldest months gas tracker could be higher than expected, high gas user might have been better off taking 12 month fix earlier in year covering whole of winter 24/25.
I think people have taken dual fuel fix with OFTM month or so ago and fixed gas for 5p kWh ( or less)0 -
If we still had gas i would be seriouskg considering fixing now as the fixes available are only 0.6p kwh higher per kwh that the average tracker price for our region in the most recent tracker tariff.
