selling a house & pension credit

Hi,  my unlce has recently sold a house he didn't live in for a year (long story;  he moved out of the area - Cornwall;  to live with my dad in the Midlands when he was terminally ill.  He had started the process of selling his flat in cornwall before my dad died and then decided to re-locate there anyway after my dad - his brother - passed away)  It has taken a full year for his house to sell and complete.  He had to pay off the remainder of his mortgage and had some credit card debt.  He is left with around £30,000 after everything is paid.  He is in receipt of pension credit.  He didn't receive housing benefit in Cornwall or the midlands and was told this was because he owned a home.  He has now taken over the rental lease of my dad's house. I know that the limit of savings to claim housing benefit is around £16,000 and £5,000 for pension credit.  What I'm wondering is;  how long after selling his house do DWP take into account before he can claim for housing benefit?  Do they have a certain amount of time they think any monies should last you before you can be under the threshhold again?  I'm just worried he lives off his savings; they run out;  he applies for housing benefit and pension credit and DWP think the savings should have lasted him longer and reject his claim.  I have googled this but can't find much coming up. I want him to be ok because he moved his whole life up to look after my dad.

Many Thanks

There is no limit to savings on PC. With £30000 there would be a deduction of £40 per week.
If PC is under that amount then there is no PC payable also with that amount there will no HB or CTR  as the cut off is £16k without PC..
If PC is over £40  then there will be full council tax reduction if he lives alone and good chance of full HB as well.
