I have over 3000 credit on my BG ac but they want to increase my DD when I phoned them they said it’s because bills have been cancelled and they are waiting for new ones. Can anyone offer an easy explanation for this. The telephone adviser was no help at all. Thanks in advance

I've had to be strict with my energy providers. I went through and calculated my annual use based on current rates and calculated what my monthly payment should be. There is no way that they should be taking more than that amount. I must admit it did take a long time on the phone with the person their end kept saying "but but but" and me saying "no this is the right amount and you don't get any more". Don't let them peddle the bit about "it needs to be higher to keep you safe".
Once you have that bit done you might consider switching to another provider to get your credit back.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on Debt Free Wannabe, Old Style Money Saving and Pensions boards. Thanks in advanceHi - if BG have spotted an error with your bills (and in certain other circumstances) and need to correct them, they'll start by cancelling the bills. At this point the creidt on your account would go up. Then they'll issue bills for the new amount and the credit will go back down again. So it could be the £3000 you see is just temporary - it sounds like that's what they're saying. For example, suppose they work out that over the last year they should have billed you £2750 but they actually billed you £2800, and suppose you had a starting credit balance of £200. The first thing that would happen is they'd give you back the £2800 and your balance would go up to £3000. Then they'd take off the £2750 they should have charged you and your balance would go back down to £250. The thing is depending on when you look and when they make the changes the balance you see could be £3000, but only because they haven't taken the new amount off yet.You can check this by looking at the account history. If it's suddenly gone up by a huge amount from one bill to the next, then this could be the case - i.e. they are telling the truth and everything will sort itself out. When they've issued the new bills you can see what the actual situation is and take it from there.0

always download the monthly bill with BG as records have been known to disappear when they switch from old to new accounting methods2
