The money is gone, but BA need it more than you do.

Don't throw away any more of your time and effort trying to get it back. Just accept the loss and move on.
    baffling response tbf.

To the OP - I feel your pain!
I've been trying to get a refund from BA for some time now...  It's a completely different scenario, but the one similarity is that they agree they owe me the money.  They have made two refunds so far, but still not the full amount.  After several live chats (trying to keep a written record of their many broken promises), I relented & called them last week (another waste of time) where by the end of the call I was rudely told the outstanding amount of the refund had been made back to my credit card & made to feel as though I was fraudulently asking for more.  This week I was told via messages on Twitter/X that the remaining amount has been in a queue waiting to be authorised since 7th June.  I do however have the evidence to back up what they owe me & so I have told them they have until middle of next week to sort it out or I'll instigate a chargeback (I am getting very close to 120 days so I can't leave it any longer).
To me it sounds like their systems & staff aren't set up to deal with anything slightly out of the ordinary, and the customer has to waste their time (several hours so far for me) as they have not been proactive once.  I strongly suspect that I wouldn't get a penny back if I didn't contact them.
