I have in Google Files on my Samsung A14 around 20 short audio clips in the form of mp3 files, each with the name of a tune as its filename.  With them sorted alphabetically, this works well enough for me to use when practicing clarinet.

I have on my laptop two folders, each containing around 40 similar clips of exercises.  The files in each folder are numbered in sequence from "ex01.mp3".  These are easy enough for me to find on the laptop when I need to refer to them only because they are in the two separate folders.

Is there any way of copying them to my phone so they are kept in separate folders?   Can I perhaps somehow organise files into folders if I add the optional micro SD card and use that for storage?

  • What app are you using to play the clips on your phone?

If you plug your phone into your laptop with a usb cable you should be able to access the phone's directories. You can then copy and paste on the laptop.

They're in Google Files and I just tap one to open it and then hit play, so I guess it's Google Files .

In which case I'd go with @bob2302 's suggestion and see if you can see the files that you already have on your phone in File Manager on your Chromebook once you attach your phone by cable. Then copy and paste the folders from Chromebook to the same location on your phone.

Don't think there's any advantage in adding a SD card unless you are short of storage on your phone.

I've now had chance to try this, and it doesn't seem to be possible to drag and drop a folder to the phone - only files.  That wouldn't be workable for my purpose, so I'll just persevere using the Chromebook when I need to listen to those files.

Thank you very much for your suggestions though  :)

Try creating a new folder on the phone, give it a name and then transfer only the files themselves across to the new folder.
    Move along, nothing to see.

Good idea, but there doesn't seem to be a way of creating a folder in Google Files on a Samsung A14!

You are, most likely, looking at the virtual folder of all audio files. Look under Storage Devices you should see Internal Storage.

However, when you plug the phone into a laptop, you can treat the phone's internal storage as in external drive in the laptops  file manager; you should be able to copy and paste the laptop's directory into the phone.

You could also try one of the many other file manager apps available.
In my personal opinion Google Files is far from the best.
I have an A13 and like CX File Explorer, try a few and see which one you prefer  (Don't forget to uninstall the ones you don't like).

There's nothing that's been mentioned that Google Files can't do. I don't see the point in complicating this.
