Gas - fixed rate or tracker alongside Octopus Agile for electric?

I'll be adding a battery to my solar array next month. My energy fixed rate expires Sept 16th. My plan is to move to Octopus Agile for electric at that point.

But what to do about gas? I'm tempted, at this point, just to go for another fix.

Last year, I used 5952 kwh gas, mostly for central heating in the winter. Although last year I worked more from home than I'm likely to this year. But I may be using gas to heat water more  as I'd previously been diverting excess solar energy to water tank (using iBoost) which will now be going to the battery instead. (I may use the timer on iBoost to heat the water using the immersion heater when Agile prices are low, but that's an unknown).

It's a few months away, I know, but I'm about to order the battery and have been thinking about this stuff.

So far this year I’ve used 5100kwh of gas that’s cost me almost £200 on Tracker. That’s at an average of just over 4.00 p kWh and saved around £100 compared to SVT and any fixed tariff available. Fixed prices would have to be below 5.00 pkwh before I would even consider changing and that doesn’t seem likely in the foreseeable future.

No risk in going on it and coming off tracker gas if it's not for you.

Unless a fix close to the1st July rates pops up and secures that rate for a year.

Currently on Agile for electric and tracker for gas with Octopus, but I have PV and a battery and looking to switch over to Eon Next Drive v3 in the autumn to benefit from the cheaper rates over night. Hoping to keep gas with octopus on the tracker.

Made some big savings on tracker in comparison to the fixed rate i was on early last year, - using about 10kwh a year.

If you have no battery or PV definitely look at going on the tracker tariff's for both, you'll save £.

Literally the first sentence of my post is: "I'll be adding a battery to my solar array next month".

Batteries and solar aren't relevant - it's about gas. Whether you go for a fix or tracker is largely  a value judgement about risk.
