Overpaid Hive Subscription

Hello - I'm new to the forum but am looking for some advice. We had a Hive thermostat installed some years ago and at the time there was the opportunity to pay for the item and the installation on a monthly basis over a 2 year period. I've only just got round to checking all my direct debits and have found I'm still paying this monthly amount despite having paid it off in full some time ago.

Seemingly Hive wait for the customer to contact them to stop payment. How is this fair or even legal?

As my 2 year period came to an end, my card details had expired and I was contacted by Hive to arrange payment for what I was told was my actual final payment. I made that payment in good conscience that it would be my final one. Surely this acts as notification of the end of my agreement with them?

Do I have any comeback with Hive to pursue a refund of the overpayment?

Thanks!

Subscription would continue after you had fully paid for the device, as subscription is for their online service

Also card details & DD are 2 separate payment methods. So card expiring has no effect on Direct Debits.

It sounds as if you finished paying for the item and installation, and that the card payment was the final one for that.  The ongoing payment (how much?) was probably for the subscription born_again mentions, above.

Time to dig out your paperwork from the time of purchase to check what you signed up to, so you can see if the ongoing payments are correct.  And make a note to check all your bank and card statements monthly, so these things are picked up.  The previous occupants of my house spent over £1200 on magazine subscriptions and rodent/pest insurance for a few years after they moved out, despite my returning letters and magazines to the senders with a “not at this address” note.
